Automotive Structures Certificate Program
The Structures Course teaches CAD designers how to create automotive structural parts within the body. The candidate will need to model parts that fit within a limited space using existing geometry as the boundaries. The candidate will learn best practices in modeling up design shape and how to maintain design changes relative to adjacent components. The candidate will learn to use the correct types of materials and processes for their designs. The candidate will also learn to design the parts to accommodate subsystems. This course reviews Die Design and Tooling to reinforce Body/Structures design manufacturing processes.

This course leverages real-world design problems presented by automotive manufacturers for case work throughout the class.

Body-in-White Design
Candidates should know the principles of body-in-white design, as well as, be able to create models using best practice techniques after completing the certification. The candidate will be able to:

Anticipate design conditions for body-in-white design
Cut compound sections in the 3-D data for analysis
Measure the model relative to a surface contour
Analyze a model or assembly to verify model integrity
Start a new design by defining the parameters of a design and incorporating with other existing parts
Compare the different construction methods and identify the correct one for a type of design
Create models using the clean edge design method
Compare the differences between clean sheet and an existing design
Trim and sculpt a solid model with sheets and Booleans
Analyze the parts for model integrity and then determine the pull vector for the parts using manufacturing design principals

Die Design & Tooling
Candidates will know how to recognize the basics of automotive die design and tooling after the certification. After this topic, the candidate will be able to:

Recognize and identify the parts in a die design tool
Compare the advantages and disadvantages of using a die design
Identify the correct parts for die design
Correctly design a casting to the die standards
Determine the correct design method for the die plane and tool
Analyze a design and identify the correct material for its composition

Course: 80 hours of online learning content
Assessment: 100 questions
